Management Company Views Unique Competition as Win-Win Opportunity for Golfers, Golf Course Revenue
VIENNA, VIRGINIA - Billy Casper Golf ("BCG"), owner, operator and consultant to 25 golf courses and country clubs in the United States, today announces that six of its properties will host one-day local qualifying tournaments for the World Golf League ("WGL") - producer of the popular competitive format in which "regular" golfers with handicaps can "play for pay."
The BCG-managed courses hosting WGL one-day qualifiers: Centennial Golf Course, Oak Ridge, Tenn. (Tuesday, July 31), Eagle Ridge Golf Club, Lakewood, N.J. (Monday, August 6), Back Creek Golf Club, Middletown, Del. (Saturday, August 11), Stoneleigh Golf Club, Round Hill, Va. (Friday, August 17), Cranbury Golf Club, West Windsor, N.J. (Sunday, August 19), and High Bridge Hills Golf Club in High Bridge Hills, N.J. (Monday, August 27).
Additional BCG courses are coordinating one-day qualifiers.
"The World Golf League is a tremendous opportunity for all parties involved," says Peter Hill, Chief Executive Officer of BCG. "The golfer gets a new, exciting event to play in with a huge paycheck potential, the golf course adds to its bottom line with pre-booked revenue at off-peak times, and the local PGA Section's junior golf program benefits."
The $1 million prize purse at the WGL National Finals includes a $100,000 competition among club professionals who host WGL one-day local qualifiers. The WGL donates $3 to the local PGA Section's junior golf program for each WGL member who competes in a one-day qualifier.
The WGL is scheduling one-day qualifying events throughout the United States, Canada, Argentina and Mexico. The top 25 percent of local competitors advance to regional competition, with top finishers advancing to the $1 million National Finals. Those who do not advance initially to the regional level may compete in another one-day qualifier. More local host sites will soon be announced, with the total number of local qualifying events to be determined by demand from golfers and course golf professionals. Registration is ongoing until September, with the local qualifiers held until Sept. 1, followed by regional competition (September and October) and the National Finals in early November.
