Alcott is fine, was suffering from dehydration

SANTA MONICA, Calif., July 11, 2001 -­ LPGA Tour Hall of Famer Amy Alcott, who withdrew from the final round of the Jamie Farr Kroger Classic this past Sunday, is home and fine. Based on evaluations from her personal physician, Alcott was suffering from dehydration, from the extreme heat in Ohio, and a slight viral infection. Alcott is expected to return to the Tour at the Sybase Big Apple Classic, July 19-22, at Wygakyl Country Club in New Rochelle, N.Y.

"I want to thank the hundreds of people who sent cards and notes when word of my withdrawal due to health reasons was published," said Alcott from her California home. "Initial reports indicated it was the result of chest pains, and I am relieved my symptoms were the result of dehydration and a virus. However, the outpouring of support and affection from friends, family and fans was overwhelming and heartwarming, and I cannot tell you how much it meant to me.

"I am looking forward to getting back out on Tour next week."

At last week's Jamie Farr Kroger Classic, Alcott made the cut, posted rounds of 71-72-71 and had a 10:30 a.m. tee time in Sunday¹sfinal round. Sheis a 29-time winner on the LPGA Tour. Alcott hasearned more than $3.37 million in her career and ranks 20th on the LPGA'sall-time earnings list.
